mother maria felix

Mother María Félix Torres, who founded the Company of the Saviour (Compañía del Salvador) and the Mater Salvatoris Schools, was born in Albelda (Huesca) on 25 August 1907.

She received an exacting education and in 1930 became one of the first Spanish women to graduate in Chemical Sciences at the University of Zaragoza.

Her desire to answer God’s calling, following in the footsteps of St Ignatius of Loyola, led her to establish the Company of the Saviour Religious Institute in 1952. In 1986, it was approved by the Holy See as a Congregation of pontifical right.

After a life devoted to educating young people, she died on the morning of 12 January 2001, at 93 years of age.

Her cause of canonisation was presented to Rome in January 2012.
